How Do You Handle Gift Basket Donation Requests?

by Shirley George Frazier on February 4, 2010

be wise when deciding who receives your gift basket donationsCharities all over the world are conducting donation drives to fund their projects, and that means they’ll request help from your business.

This support is provided in numerous ways including:

  • Supporting the charity through donating a percentage of your sales.
  • This can be helpful to you and them, as some customers will align themselves with this effort, selecting you as their gift basket provider because you’re paired with an organization.

  • Providing gift baskets for black tie events that act as fundraisers.
  • Attending the event where you donate gift baskets is mandatory to extend your business life. This is explained in detail in the book, How to Start a Home-Based Gift Basket Business.

  • Choosing your charity affiliation wisely.
  • Many organizations will reach out to you in hopes that you will support them through products or cash donations.

Determine which group serves your community or focuses on an issue affecting family members. That will be the right affiliation for you.

What do you say when an organization asks you to donate gift baskets?

I donate a basket to the groups that I feel can actually be helpful to my business, and a gift certificate to the others. I get the ‘Great publicity!” that the charities promise for the donation, but no out of pocket until/unless the card is redeemed.

    Great rules, Lise.

I’m sure, without being in your studio, that you receive numerous donation requests every month.

There’s no way you can donate to all and prosper at the same time.
