I firmly believe that there’s no reason to spend time monitoring a program where customers aren’t found, and if you feel this way about social media (Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, to name the top three), it’s understandable.
But how much have you investigated the opportunities through these free spaces?
Here’s what I’ve found that may be beneficial to you.
Designers regularly market their gift baskets through Twitter and Facebook. They deliver messages about spring gifts, daily specials, and where they travel to find one-of-a-kind products for their customers and potential clients.
I follow many of them, and they reciprocate through the BasketSupplies Twitter account where I share product finds, sales, and more.
It’s important that you spend about 30 minutes of time this week or next to investigate the potential for you to reach customers through these online tools.
Here are three steps get you started.
1. Claim your name. Setting up a fan page on Facebook for your business is a quick and easy process, as I did for the Gift Basket Business fan page where free reports and downloads are available. It’s important to stage an appearance even if you only update your page once a week or twice a month.
There’s also a Gift Basket Business group page where designers provide solutions to industry questions and challenges. I encourage you to join the fan page and group page.
2. Invest your time in places where customers gather. Okay, you set up your Facebook page, but customers don’t visit Facebook. That’s fine. The page costs you nothing and exists to capture new customers or is there when clients start going there. Now you can concentrate on postcard mailings, online newsletters, and other marketing that gets their attention.
3. Read other gift basket business messages. Twitter and Facebook both include search boxes that let you find accounts owned by other designers. What are they tweeting or posting? How many people are within their circle or follow their messages? Their strategies give you insight on how to make these programs deliver more prospects and sales to you.
What is it about social media that has you questioning whether or not it’s for you?
