I mention this to you because I had a chance to save money in December and blew it. The savings was 60 percent off a product that I regularly purchase.

I didn’t document the savings on my calendar, along with the deadline date to give the offer a second thought.

I found myself buying the item for full price just 15 days later, as none of my negotiation tactics worked to extend the price reduction.

That was a huge mistake on my part, one that I wish the opposite for you.

If wholesalers are offering any of the following, look at your inventory and consider the savings:

  • Free freight (especially from firms thousands of miles away)
  • Payment in 60 days rather than 30
  • Reductions of 50 percent or more off regular wholesale prices
  • Buy a case (or two), get a case (or two) free

    • There’s more available according to who’s offering what, but this short list provides you with a guide to specials that lower your price and put more money in your pocket when you sell.

    Imagine this: as you create a custom item for a gift basket, that item morphs into a full-fledged book.

    That’s what happened to this gift basket designer, featured in HometownAnnapolis.com. It’s more proof that many of us are talented with and beyond gift baskets.

    Think back. What were you unable to find during your products’ research that could become a brand-new product or resource?

    Here’s my short list:

  • Oversized tooth (add a strap, and turn it into a child’s lunchbox?)

  • Stationery quickly personalized with any name or logo (available now, but nonexistent in the 1990s)

  • Desk organizer without so many compartments (lots of messy foam cutting for me to anchor foods and snacks inside of it, but what’s an organizer without compartments?)

    • I read about the designing author right after launching OrganicWholesaleSupplies.com. The story reminded me about how important books are to us as well.

    I’m not going to ask any of you to reveal your list, as I did above, but I do encourage you to consider opportunities that reveal themselves as you create your gorgeous designs. It brought one woman media attention. Why not you?
