- Blog posts
- Video
- Social media
- Article writing
- Interviews
- Profiles
- Sponsorships
- Speeches and other public appearances
The picture above, showing my daughter and me on the front page of a local Sunday morning newspaper, was the result of sending press releases to the same newspaper without knowing if the releases were being read, filed, or thrown away. The persistence paid off with this feature story, lots of sales, and more publicity.
This profile story appeared in Emerge Magazine. Unfortunately, I don’t recall how this writer and I connected. Since I know it wasn’t through a business function, the writer may have found me through a local reporter. The connection is a mystery, but the bottom line is that my profile was published. That’s what you want!
Here’s another example article (above) that appeared in Gift Basket Review. This profile is all about my appearances on Food Network. I called a Food Network producer directly by phone, told him in 30 seconds why my appearance would be of interest to viewers, and three months later (December 26) was live on the air. Believe in what you can achieve, and be confident. Take a deep breath and make calls, send emails, or speak to people in person.

Be patient as you market. Front page news and feature stories do not happen overnight. A long term, weekly marketing plan to connect with journalists and create your own publicity, whether online or offline, is mandatory to get media attention. Decide what you’ll do, and take action. In time you’ll be featured, and then the real work that satisfies new and current clients will begin.
